TV Preview Part 4: Thursdays

This going to be a short and sweet one.

Thursdays are easily the best TV day of the week (for me at least).Check it out, courtesy of The Futon Critic of course.

ABC is beasting with shows that I dont particularly care for, but the rest of country enjoys with Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy. At ten, they are premiering a new time travel show called Life on Mars, which actually looks interesting, so keep it on your radar.

CBS reels out its staples: Survivor and CSI. Meh. They are also airing a new show called Eleventh Hour which I know nothing about nor care to learn.

Ah, NBC. This is where my TV will be locked on thursdays from 8-10. My Name is Earl, the new Kath & Kim, The Office, and 30 Rock is a helluva line up. See, sitcoms aren't dead.

At ten, flip to FX for arguably the funniest show on TV, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. And give their new sitcom, Testees, a test drive.

There may be other crap on Thursday nights, but do yourself a favor and listen to my suggestions and you won't be disappointed. And if you are... well... I don't really care.

Ghostbusters 3 news!!!

Seems I was wrong.

Ghostbusters 3 is coming, and a couple of The Office writers are behind it. For more info check out Slashfilm. Bill Murray, after joking that the wounds of Ghostbusters 2 had healed, went on to offer this bit of advice:

"We didn’t have a lot of special effects in it. There were just a couple. It was just the funny characters in that world, and I like that movie because of it."

I'm officially pumped.

Read more here, and click here to read all the news on the project.

I'm gonna try to get that TV preview finished this weekend

As well as bang out some other big things I've been working on.

In the meantime, check out Young Chris's new website YoungCblog.com. And while you're there, download his new mixtape with DJ Drama. Eventually people will stop sleeping on Chris and State Property in general.

Fall TV Part III - Wednesdays

Wednesdays are a very generic mix of programming, eventually everyone will find something to watch. Unfortunately for me, I watch none of the shows. That does leave me open to check out a few things that I wouldn't have given a chance otherwise.

As usual, the schedule is courtesy of The Futon Critic.

The first show I must check out is Pushing Daisies. The premise sounds like something perfect for a movie, and sounds so crazy that I can't believe I've never given the show a fair shake. It's on ABC at 9 and I'm gonna give it a shot for its second season premiere on 10/1. I mean, the show was nominated for 12 Emmys, where the hell have I been?

ABC rounds out the night with its other sophomore season shows, Private Practice and Dirty Sexy Money. Looks like ABC at least had a solid plan for Wednesday night.

CBS brings back The Old Adventures of New Christine for a fourth season. She's still Elaine to me. After New Christine, is a new sitcom called Gary Unmarried. Title choice is horrible. Starring Jay Mohr? Yeah, count me out. More standard CBS fare follows Gary.

Knight Rider returns tomorrow on NBC. I can not believe I haven't made time to check this show out yet. Although, I do think "Hasselhoff" every time it's mentioned, that can't possibly help. The horrid America's Got Talent follows at 9pm. Coincidentally, Hasselhoff is a judge on the show, along with Jerry Springer and Sharon Osbourne and some other *sshole... NBC ebds their herky-jerky night with Lipstick Jungle which (if i'm not mistaken) is cut from the Desperate Housewives cloth.

Fox. Bones is back. Never really enjoyed Bones. Til Death surprisingly returns for another season. I've never found the show particularly funny and thought Back to You with Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammer was much better. Shows what I know. Fox unleashes another new comedy, called Do Not Disturb that I don't have much hope for. However, it's a nice change of scenery for a workplace show (a hotel) and despite the fact Jerry O'Connell stars in it (quick turnaround after Carpoolers) I think I'll check it out.

On cable, Top Design is current airing on Bravo. The amazingly entertaining Parking Wars returns to A&E (Philly!). South Park returns and is followed by a new David Allen Grier project called Chocolate News (I'm extremely worried about this one). Check out more Wednesday night cable here.

On the Direct TV channel, my beloved Friday Night Lights returns for its third season. Since I dont have Direct TV, I can only pray that an NBC premiere will occur at some point, or will at least have the episodes available online. If you haven't been watching, here's a reminder why you should, check the evidence.

I'll be back soon with Thursday.

New Music

Royce Da 5'9" has finally released The Bar Exam 2 with DJ Green Lantern. I wouldn't call myself a huge Royce fan, but the first Bar Exam was amazing so I'm expecting big things on this one too; there aren't too many cats spitting like Royce right now.

The Bar Exam 2

I haven't even downloaded it for myself yet, so don't shoot me if it's wack.

A proper funeral for one of the funniest shows ever

It's been a few years since Chappelle's Show went of the air, and enough time has passed to take a solid look at the show and see how it's aged. I think you'll agree that it's held up and was arguably the funniest show of all time.

Check out this King Magazine article, The Rise and Fall of Chappelle's Show. A funny excerpt from the article:

Rawlings: When I met Wayne Brady, he came up to me like, [imitating Wayne’s voice] “I just wanna say, I think you guys do amazing work on the show. It’s funny, phenomenal work. History in the making.” Blah, blah, blah. I’m looking at him with his voice, like, “This nigga really talk like Wayne Brady!” I said, “Nah man, you the n*gga!” He looked at me like, “Nobody has ever called me that type of n*gger before.” [Laughs]

Check out more Chappelle's Show videos if you wanna reminisce.

Fall TV Part II - Tuesdays

Finally. I'm sorry it took over 2 weeks to get to Tuesdays, but here it is.

I talked a lot crap about Mondays, but Tuesdays are looking far worse... unless you enjoy horrible reality programming. However, there are a bunch of new shows that are airing on Tuesdays so maybe the night can be salvaged.

Of course, the schedule is courtesy of The Futon Critic.

Tuesday (click the image to view the schedule)

Welp, lets start with ABC. Since it's obvious the sitcom is dead (arg), just like every other station, ABC is running with three one hour shows and 2 of them are reality based. At 8, they are rolling out a new game show, Opportunity Knocks. I'm not gonna lie, I'm actually intrigued by this show and will probably check it out. Basically a game show comes to a family's house, instead of visa versa, and are asked personal questions about each other for cash. Unfortunately, the show looks very clean and very "Middle America". Might not be a bad show to watch with your mom though.

Dancing with the Stars at 9, followed by Eli Stone in a new time slot at 10. I've never given Stone a fair chance since it's after-LOST premiere. ABC needs to do a better job selling the show cause it suffers from a complete lack of buzz.

CBS is going w/ their standard fare at 8 and 10, with NCIS and Without a Trace. In between, they are premiering a new show called The Mentalist. In the show's description, I saw the phrases: "notorious for his blatant lack of protocol" and "no-nonsense Senior Agent Teresa Lisbon" so I'm probably not making this generic crime drama a weekly watch.

NBC just gave up Tuesdays (I guess there was too much competition?) and is airing 2 hours of he Biggest Loser: Families. Fat family programming? Naw, I'm good. They follow that up with new episodes of Law and Order: SVU which I'm sure I'll enjoy on cable at my grandmother's house or when I have company and no one can agree on what to watch.

Fox is going with House on Tuesdays at 8 followed by the new JJ Abrams (the guy behind LOST) project: Fringe. It apparently already premiered, but if I have some time I'll check out an episode.

CW is premiering the new 90210 and some other crappy looking show (in my opinion) called Privileged.

Cable TV has apparently been reduced to celebrity reality shows: Keyshia Cole, celeb stylist Rachel Zoe, Pamela Anderson, Diddy, Paris Hilton, Fonzworth Bentley, and Janice Dickinson all have shows airing on Tuesdays. Oh yeah, and the critically acclaimed The Shield is on at some point among all this tomfoolery.

Sigh.

Don't be mad

I know, I know. I owe you an apology.

I promise, the rest of the TV preview is coming. I've had a lot going on, but now I'm back and focused.

To make it up to you, check out the new web series by Seth MacFarlane, the dude behind Family Guy and American Dad.
