Trick on Vick

King of Miami and legal expert Trick Daddy gives his two cents on the Mike Vick "situation" on Miami sports radio (I think its Dan LeBatard).

[smartenupnas.com]

According to Trick "Michael Vick is the Shaquille O'neal of the NFL" and is "the greatest player ever".

I mean, he makes some valid points: "Do anybody get a pass!?".

Like, 8% of kids do it

Saw Superbad twice so far. I'd see it again too. No comedy has had this much rewatchability (word?) since 40 Year Old Virgin. And whaddya know? They were done by the same dude. Judd Apatow, the man who also brought us Fox's Undeclared and the summer's other hit comedy Knocked Up.

What sets Superbad apart is how it succeeds on so many levels: Dialogue, casting, soundtrack, relatablity; everybody sees a little of themselves from high school in this movie (well every dude... ok, at least every suburban dude).

For better or worse, the rest of the country feels the same (number one movie for 2 weeks), so I'd suggest checking it out before it approaches "If I hear one more f*cking quote from that damn movie" status.

Check out this practical joke interview. It's moderately entertaining. Ok, its dumb but I'm being lazy:

50, Kanye, Diddy, Jay-Z, T.I. all onstage together?

It's 2007, these cats might would probably have to drop a joint album with no n-word to go double platinum.

Not to hate on 50, but this photo [courtesy of killedthat.com] cracks me up.

Article and more photos here.

But wait, there's more. Would you be interested in video footage? Of course you would. Watch 50 throw up the ROC:

R.I.P. Eddie Griffin

News of Philly's own Eddie Griffin's death was reported yesterday in Houston. Troubled dude that has had a rep since High School.

A coworker here went to school with him and said he was a quiet kid who pretty much stayed to himself. That's the same side of Eddie that NBA officials always saw in Griffin while he was receiving chance after chance to redeem himself. Problems with alcohol seemed to drive his other issues.

Damn.

Yafigadealme?

Nore is back with a new solo album!!!!! Noreality drops August 28th on Babygrande Records. You already know I'm picking it up, Melvin Flynt is one of my favorite rappers of all time and you know there's gonna be crazy energy on this album just like all his other joints. Dude made a costly career move when he started messing with that reggaeton (que? que?), but I'm just glad that he's back.

So, without further ado I present you with the first single from his upcoming album Noreality (August 28th), Set it Off produced by Swizz Beatz (tha monsta). Can any song named Set it Off not be hot?

The Best Show I'M Not Watching

No, not The Wire (well, ok. maybe it's The Wire). But as far as NBC sitcoms go, 30 Rock is the runaway winner.

Tracy Morgan? Alec Baldwin? Tina Fey? Did I mention Tracy Morgan? Need I say more? So it's completely unexplainable why I'm haven't been tuning in. Especially after watching this. [cracked.com].

NBC was in programming purgatory just a few years ago after losing caucasion powerhouses Frasier, Friends, Seinfeld, Will and Grace, as well as the NBA. Who knew when they took a flyer on The Office, My Name is Earl, 30 Rock, and continuing to renew Scrubs despite the ratings, that NBC would be the funniest channel on television? (Plus they got the NFL back, premiered Heroes and Friday Night Lights.) Only if they had gotten Arrested Development when it left Fox...

I sincerely hope they get their hands on the hilarious Everybody Hates Chris (yes I'm starting rumors) and saves it from the CW.

Give me my 99 cents back

Mp3sparks.com. Kinda legal. Full albums for just 2 bucks. Singles for 20 cents. You can even choose the type of file you would like to receive it in. And no DRM. I don't think Russia has accomplished anything better than this... ever.

*You may remember the site as AllofMp3.com.

The 2007 List

It's been a while since I did one of the ever-popular Top 10 Women lists. At some point over the last year, I deemed myself too mature to take the time and create another one. So here it is in no real order (unless noted):

Mya Harrison. Been on the list since like 99. No more talk is necessary.

Rosario Dawson. Never really impressed me until I saw 25th Hour. But since then :)

Scarlett Johansson. I think it was her character in Lost in Translation that did it.

Meagan Good. RDC's girl. She is getting better as she gets older.

Eva Mendes. She seems so fun. Seriously.

Rihanna. Long legged. She's everywhere right now so I didn't even bother finding great photos.

Jessica Simpson. Team Jessica over here.

Vanessa and Angela Simmons. First timers on the list. Cute girls w/ annoying voices.

Beyonce. I hate putting her on the list, but let's be real...

Lauren London. Flew under my radar for a while, but she's pretty damn cute.

Of course at this point you're wondering where the list staple, Davecia Carr, is. Well, over the years she has requested to long be included because she doesn't take her inclusion in the list seriously. However, she was and is number 1.

Wow, what a waste of time this was, lol.

Fellas, post your top 10 and ladies, post your top 10 dudes.

Shirt Off vs. Shirt Unbuttoned to the Navel - Who Ya Wit? (c) Jay-Z

Main Event: Curtissssss "50 Cent" Jackson versus Kanye "To Tha" West
When: September 11, 2007
Where: Music retailers everywhere
Why: Because its hip-hop and for some reason hip-hop is confrontational

In true old-school WWF fashion, 50 Cent has declared he will stop releasing solo albums if Kanye sells more records than him on September 11th.

"Put it like this," 50 told SOHH. "Let's raise the stakes. If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on September 11, I'll no longer write music. I'll write music and work with my other artists, but I won't put out any more solo albums. [sohh.com]

Remember back in the day when wrestlers used to hype up main events like this? I think Macho Man had one against Ultimate Warrior, among others. But this just goes to show you that Vince McMahon is a marketing genius, whose ideas are still fresh 20-30 years later (sarcasm).

I might buy 2 copies of Kanye's album just to further the effort, mainly because I need 50 to focus on getting Buck's career back on track... and of course another Yayo album!

I guess Mos and Gondry hit it off during Block Party

I first peeped this yesterday, and then noticed my girlfriend had already posted it on facebook. But anyway...

From the director that brought you Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (excellent movie), the actor/musician that we all went to high school with, and the musician/actor who was in MJ's Ghosts, I present you with Be Kind Rewind:

Thats all I'm gonna give you. I have a strict policy that once I find a movie I desperately want to see, I shut down watching/reading all pre-release materials. This way, no pre-conceived notions.

Pop Lock and Drop It

As the years go by, I'm nearly ready to declare The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air the greatest sitcom of my generation and the greatest black sitcom of all-time. Of course I'm biased, but c'mon... what other TV character could've kept Tom Jones relevant?

"Valored out like the sheik of Iran" - Tony Starks

*Edit: I totally butchered the spelling of 'veloured', not that it's a word or anything.

Well, well, well. It seems that Pretty Tony himself will have at least a cameo in the upcoming Iron Man movie [rollingstone.com] and I couldn't be more ecstatic. I don't care if the movie sucks, at least I know director John Favreau knows what the deal is. Word on the street is that Ghost will actually be playing a sheik in Iran; it doesn't get better than that... except I would have rather it been a surprise.

And therein lies the gift and the curse of instant communication right at our fingertips. I heard the good news, texted five people, shared it on Facebook, and then blogged about it. Imagine how much sweeter the moment would have been if while chilling and enjoying the movie, Ghostface f*cking Killah pops up. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Of course I was already pumped for the movie, this is just icing on the cake. I can already taste the bitterness of disappointment.

New Music Tuesdays on Wednesdays

Yesterday Common's latest album, Finding Forever (corny title) was released with more fanfare and marketing efforts behind it than any "conscious rapper" has ever had. Com had MTV locked down, Sirius radio locked down, TV locked down, and I assume regular radio was throwing him a bone in between spins of "Ay Bay Bay".

I haven't given the album a full and fair listen yet... but I was underwhelmed on my first go-round (with the exceptions of the 3 stellar singles). But, I was also not feeling Be when it first dropped. Whether or not being in Kanye's camp has helped Common, I don't know, but it has extended his career another good 5-7 years and is peaking in popularity right now, which to me, is ironic given today's hip-hop climate.

In other music news, listen to all 29 tracks of the upcoming UGK album, Underground Kingz at mtv.com.

Common, Kanye, UGK, Chamillionaire, Lupe, The Roots, 50, Weezy, Wu-Tang, Talib, Little Brother, and who know's who else, are all dropping relatively soon. Who said hip-hop is dead?

While I have you here, check out this Wu-Tang interview (courtesy of onsmash.com) with the members talking about the upcoming album and working together for all these years.
